Troubleshooting FAQ
WHEN I TRY TO LOGIN TO ACCESS LOCKED CONTENT, IT TAKES ME DIRECTLY TO THE "BECOME A MEMBER" PAGE. WHY?
More than likely you're not entering your username and password exactly as you did when you registered. Your login information IS case-sensitive. For example, if you registered with a username of "sMi999", you would need to enter that as "sMi999" not "smi999" or "SMI999". After trying more than 3 times with the wrong login, you are automatically taken to the "Become A Member" page.
[back to top]WHEN I TRY TO LOGIN TO ACCESS LOCKED CONTENT, I GET A MESSAGE "INVALID PASSWORD." WHY?
More than likely you're not entering your username and password exactly as you did when you registered. Your login information IS case-sensitive. For example, if you registered with a username of "sMi999", you would need to enter that as "sMi999" not "smi999" or "SMI999".
Another reason is that you are using the username and password you registered at our Message Boards, rather than the username and password you registered for the rest of the site. Try going to the Message Boards and logging in with the username and password you've been trying. If it works, that's probably the issue. We highly recommend using the same username and password for the Message Boards that is used for the main site login.
If you've never gone through the registration process via the Become a Member screen (which includes entering your credit card information), you'll need to do that before gaining access to locked content. Just click on "Subscription Info" at the top right of this page to complete the simple registration process.
If you have lost your password, you can retrieve it using our Lost Password form. Or if you are unable to login using your current password, please send an email to support@soundmindinvesting.com and include the name on the credit card you used as well as your screen username. We will make every effort to reply promptly.

WHY DOES SOME CONTENT REQUIRE A PASSWORD WHILE OTHER CONTENT DOES NOT?
The most common way for a website to generate revenue is through displaying advertising. Since the one thing readers want from SMI more than anything is objective, unbiased investment advice, we have decided to not accept advertising of any kind. There is still a cost to researching and generating the content we provide, so we charge a small subscription fee. That fee allows access to all the features of the site for our web members. Readers who choose not to pay this monthly fee can still access some of SMI's content, but not certain articles or features that are available for web members only.

HOW CAN I TELL WHAT CONTENT IS LOCKED AND WHAT CONTENT IS FREE?
SoundMindInvesting.com marks articles that are locked with a key symbol
. If you click on a link that is not marked and it results in the login box being shown on the screen, that link leads to a locked area, and requires web membership to view. The Become a Member screen will be displayed when you close the login box. Either complete the registration process to become a web member, or simply click the 'Back' button on your browser to continue viewing the free page you were on before linking to locked content.

HOW DO I SEARCH FOR SPECIFIC TOPICS ON THE SITE?
In the top right corner of each page on our site is a Search box. Type in the word or topic that you are interested in, and you'll be given a list of articles on the SMI site regarding that topic.
Other good ways to search for content are to use the "Find By Topic" drop-down lists at the top of each page, the "Browse Newsletters" option that will offer you a table of contents for each issue we've published recently, or our Site Map.

WHEN TRYING TO VIEW THE FUND PERFORMANCE RANKINGS, I GET THE MESSAGE "ADOBE ACROBAT NOT INSTALLED." WHAT'S WRONG?
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a widely used program that is helpful for reading documents downloaded over the Internet. While SMI does not offer technical assistance in using this 3rd party software utility, some tips for downloading and installing Acrobat Reader are available here.
